Getting an RSS Feed from the IS Departmental Blog

What is it?
When the Blog changes it creates a ‘feed’ – an updated summary of what has been posted.

To read a feed you need:

  1. a subscription to a service (such as Bloglines)
  2. a feedreader

The feedreader will check the Blog (or Blogs) every hour and let you know when an update has occured.

Subscribe
There is a subscribe link on the Blog to take you to the Bloglines subscription page , or just click on this link: http://www.bloglines.com/sub
Create an account, put in the url of the Blog you want to subscribe to:

https://jrulinfosystems.wordpress.com/

– hit subscribe, and you’ll need to reply to the email that will be sent to you to confirm your subscription.

Get a Notifier
Visit: http://www.bloglines.com/myblogs

click on ‘Choose a notifier’ and select one compatible with the browser you use. Download it and restart your browser. This puts a small B icon in your taskbar which changes when the Blog is updated. You can do this on any number of computers you use.

Right click on the icon to adjust its properties (tick ‘enable notifier’ put in your email address).

How to Use it
Whenever you see that the blue ‘B’ in your browser taskbar has a new red blot on it you can click it to read new amendments to the Blog.
